2nd Annual Special RED Friday Celebration Event For Veterans, Military and First Responders
HAMILTON, ONTARIO- To honour and recognize our local Veterans, Military and First Responders in the community, Branch 551 Waterdown Royal Canadian Legion is hosting a 2nd Annual Special RED (“Remember Everyone Deployed”) Friday event on June 7, 2019 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Held in the front parking lot of the Waterdown Legion, this free event will include a special presentation scheduled at 5:00 pm to say thank you and to highlight the work of local Veterans, Military and First Responders in the community. There will also be a barbecue with food and beverages available for purchase, musical entertainment provided by Michael Hubley and activities for children. Waterdown Legion members Bob Thomas and Margaret Ritchie are working together with Ward 15 Councillor Judi Partridge to host this celebration.
Many organizations have been invited to attend and participate, including the Canadian Armed Forces – 4th Canadian Division (31 Brigade), 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles Association, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Royal Canadian Navy – HMCS Star, Hamilton Paramedic Services, Archives and Heritage Flamborough, Hamilton Fire Department, Hamilton Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police and more groups from the community.
The RED Friday initiative was founded in 2006 by Karen Kelly and Lisa Miller, two military wives with husbands deployed in Afghanistan, encouraging Canadians to wear red on Fridays as an expression of respect, appreciation and support. The 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles Association has joined forces with Kelly and Miller to reinvigorate and expand RED Fridays across Canada. RED Friday has now expanded to include First Responders (Police, Fire and Ambulance) as well as Military.
Please join the community to honour and say thank you to our Veterans, Military and Emergency Services for all their work. Everyone is encouraged to wear red in respect, appreciation and support.
