I have been particularly frustrated with the continual delays in the development of two parks in Waterdown, with no cooperation from developers. This has been a continued bone of contention for the residents who were promised these parks in their neighbourhoods (in some cases 8 years ago). The first one, proposed by Country Green, was for around the water tower bordered by Nisbet Boulevard, White Gates Drive and Cole Street, as part of their Parkside Hills development. The timeline for this park, as part of Phase 2, is still in limbo due to an ongoing Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) challenge that is holding everything up. Please click here for more information.
My office has also received many calls from equally frustrated residents as to what’s going on with a second park proposed in the development at Sadielou Boulevard and Gunby Boulevard. DiMarco Lands owns part of the land needed for the park, which will not be developed for the foreseeable future. They need to proceed with the development first before the park can move forward. Because it is privately owned property, the City has no control over the timeline. I have been working with staff to look for budget money to develop part of the park sometime next year.
