On March 5th at 3:35 pm police were called to a business on Hamilton Street for a shoplifter. The youth was seen by security to conceal an item under a sweater and leave without paying. The suspect explained that they had been dared by schoolmates to steal. The property was returned and the suspect was very remorseful. At the request of the store the suspect was cautioned and trespassed from the store for 6 months.
On March 6th shortly after 4:00 am suspects smashed the two front doors of a business on Clappison Avenue and gained entry. Several items were loaded into a bin and taken to a waiting vehicle. The scenes of crimes officer attended to collect evidence and the investigation has turned over to the BEAR unit. Surveillance video was seized and will be reviewed.
Overnight on March 5th suspects attempted to enter a vehicle parked in a driveway on Kildonan Crescent. The driver’s side door handle was pried but entry was not gained. There are no suspects at this time.
On March 7th at 5:53 pm a visiting vehicle from the United States was parked in the lot of a residence on Hamilton Street. A grey pickup was seen in the lot and the passenger was seen crouched down at the rear of the parked visiting vehicle. Another resident called out and the suspect and vehicle fled. No licence plate was obtained. The US visitor later discovered that his rear plate had been stolen. Police will be reviewing surveillance video. Not a very nice way to welcome our visitors from the south.
On March 9th at 10:50 pm police were called to the parking lot of a business on Highway 5 for a male asleep in a parked running vehicle. Police attended and observed the male slouched over in the driver’s seat. After several unsuccessful attempts to awaken the male police opened the door. Drugs and paraphernalia were seen on the drivers lap and in the cup holder. When police turned off the vehicle the male finally woke up. The male was arrested for possession of drugs as well as impaired care and control of a vehicle by drug. He was transported to the police station where a drug recognition evaluation was performed – which he failed. The drugs were seized, the vehicle towed and the male given a court date.
