Everyone is invited to a special RED Friday event (“Remember Everyone Deployed”) to honour and recognize our local Veterans, Military and First Responders on Friday June 8, 4:00pm-7:00pm at the Waterdown Legion on Hamilton Street. I am honoured to be the Co-Chair with Bob Thomas, Waterdown Legion.
This event will include a special presentation at 5:00pm to say thank you and to highlight their work in the community. There will also be historic displays, a barbecue, musical entertainment provided by Michael Hubley, and activities for children. Confirmed to attend are the Police Mounted Unit, Canadian Armed Forces – 4th Canadian Division, 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles Association, Royal Canadian Navy – HMCS Star, Hamilton Paramedic Services, Archives and Heritage Flamborough, Hamilton Fire Department, Hamilton Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police.
Everyone is encouraged to wear red to the celebration, as part of a RED Friday initiative that was founded in 2006 by Karen Kelly and Lisa Miller, two military wives with husbands deployed in Afghanistan. Canadians are encouraged to wear red on Fridays as an expression of respect, appreciation and support. The 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles Association has joined forces with Kelly and Miller to reinvigorate and expand RED Fridays across Canada, and has now expanded to include First Responders (Police, Fire and Ambulance) as well as Military.
If you have any questions, please contact Waterdown Legion member and Event Coordinator Bob Thomas firstname.lastname@example.org
With Kind Regards,
Councillor Judi Partridge
