For the past six years I have had the pleasure of participating as a committee member on the Halton Hamilton Source Water Protection Committee. Just released is the Ontario Auditor General Value for Money report on this legislation here. This committee is one of many throughout Ontario which was formed as a result of the Provincial Clean Water Act legislation. That legislation was a result of the tragic death of residents in Walkerton due in part to a contaminated municipal water supply. The committee’s responsibility is to follow the mandate set by the province to develop policies for Source Water Protection to be implemented by both Halton Region and Hamilton municipalities. This is just one example of how the province and municipalities work together.
