The Ward boundaries for the city of Hamilton, set by Council are being seriously challenged at the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB). This will have the most negative impact on Flamborough both Ward 15 and Ward 14, and the Hamilton Mountain Wards. It is important that there be a good number of residents from the Flamborough Community at the OMB meeting to speak in support of the current Ward Boundaries and against the changes. The proposed Ward Boundary changes would realign boundaries across Dundas, Flamborough, Ancaster and the Mountain wards to create an additional Hamilton mountain Ward. That would mean 16 Wards instead of 15 Wards with the rural communities losing a Council vote at the table. The urban areas of Hamilton would gain an extra vote. Should you wish to help defend the current Ward Boundaries to protect Flamborough, please plan to attend the September 18th OMB meeting to register yourself to speak as participant status. It is also important to show support by just attending the meetings even if you don’t want to speak.
Please read more about the Ward Boundary Review here.
Below are the important dates you need to attend. Please be prepared to provide your participant testimony in writing as well as verbally at the hearing. In the best case scenario, any person wanting to be a participant but not yet given that status by the Board should:
- Appear on September 18 – 10am to request participant status, located at the Dundas Town Hall.
- Appear at the October hearing on October 19 at 10am for direction from the Board, located at the Stoney Creek Municipal Centre; and,
- Appear on October 24th at 6:30pm (or as otherwise directed by the Board on October 19) to provide submissions also at the Stoney Creek Municipal Centre.
Please share this invitation with other residents and businesses who wish to attend. I’d like to have a minimum of 10-15 Flamborough residents register as participants to speak and 30+ attend the October 24th special evening meeting to hear all participants who are registered.
