Dear Residents,

Starting today Wednesday February 17, staff will be launching the application process for patio extensions for the 2021 spring and summer outdoor dining season, after Council approved to extend the Outdoor Dining Districts Program through to next Fall in support of restaurant, bar and café owners. The program allows eligible local businesses to submit their requests for staff review and begin preparing to establish temporary seasonal patios and seating areas on municipal or private property (if current zoning is compliant) once the warmer weather arrives.

As one of the COVID economic recovery initiatives, Council has waived all City fees and costs to businesses for these patios for the 2021 season – businesses are only responsible for paying their own costs for constructing/renting/furnishing their patios.

Last year, the program supported the expansion of over 160 patios, significantly helping businesses across Flamborough / Hamilton.  

Applications will be available on the Outdoor Dining Districts webpage for commercial patio extension requests on both private property and municipal property. All requests for patio extensions (including on-street structures) will be facilitated through this website and the staff team of reviewers.
