I am pleased to share that 12 historical plaques are now underway with planned installation throughout 2021-2022 in the Waterdown Village Heritage District and at significant Flamborough heritage landmarks. The Task Force doing creative design, writing and research includes the Waterdown BIA, Flamborough Archives and The Waterdown-East Flamborough Heritage Society, working together with myself and staff. Plaque topics will include Waterdown Memorial Hall, Memorial Park, Sealy Park & Artillery piece and many more.
“I’m very excited to be working with Councillor Partridge and the team on this initiative as there are numerous places – and people – in Waterdown and Flamborough that deserve recognition. With so many new families moving into the area this is going to be a great way to highlight the wonderful history we share, especially if we can also work this into a walking tour. Some of the suggested plaque locations are very familiar to people but we hope to bring a different perspective and highlight facts that may not be so well known. With the Waterdown Built Heritage Inventory and the Secondary Node Study currently underway, I think there is a heightened awareness of our local history and hopefully this project will build on that.” – Lyn Lunsted, Flamborough Heritage Society
These heritage plaques will be wonderful reflections of our rich history that everyone will be able to enjoy around our Waterdown village and perhaps result in a Heritage Walk event throughout our wonderful community of Waterdown.
