The Ontario Greenbelt is the world’s largest. It spans across 1.8 million acres of working countryside, from the Greater Golden Horseshoe to the tip of the Bruce Peninsula. According to the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, it’s a key part of the government’s plan to manage growth, build a sustainable green economy and protect the environment, which will help build prosperous and more liveable communities.
Much of our existing rural and agricultural land base in Hamilton has been included in the Greenbelt area.
Councillor Partridge has been a supporter of the Greenbelt every step of the way. It is believe important to maintain our green space and be very conscious of the environment. With the Greenbelt in place, we have protected our rural and agriculture lands, ensuring that we can enjoy these lands for years to come. From walking trails to open fields, these are places for all of us to enjoy.
The Greenbelt also helps us grow in a thoughtfully planned out manner. Since building on the Greenbelt is restricted, we must look to other areas for growth.
The Greenbelt also presents us with an opportunity to encourage and implement more “green” methods of operation.
