The City is developing new Zoning By-law regulations for residential areas, including Second Dwelling Units (SDU)- staff are asking for feedback on proposed regulations for urban & rural types of SDU’s.A second dwelling unit is a separate and self-contained dwelling unit that is accessory to and located on the same lot as the main house (can be a basement apartment, or granny flats, or coach house). There are certain regulations that are required to ensure neighbourhood compatibility , maintain privacy as well as address safety, servicing and environmental issues.
Virtual Town Halls will be held on the following dates, will require registration to attend. Presentations will be archived for residents who are unable to attend:
- November 12, 2020 7:00 to 8:30 PM
- November 16, 2020 1:00 to 2:30 PM
There are also urban/rural surveys open now for everyone to have their say on the proposed regulations. The survey will close November 16: https://engage.hamilton.ca/…/survey_tools/project-survey
The Engage Hamilton portal (https://engage.hamilton.ca/residentialzoningproject) is the main access point for residents to obtain information on the topic, to answer survey questions, and/or to sign up for one of our two virtual Town Halls.
If you know a family member, relative, neighbour, co-worker, or friend who do not have access to a computer or internet, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with the name, telephone number, and full address so staff can send printed versions so they too can participate in the consultation.
