As your Councillor living in the rural area myself, my family knows the frustration many residents are experiencing with lack of consistent internet broadband in their homes, and I wanted to provide an update on the Bell Rural Broadband Internet Infrastructure Expansion project.
Last year, Bell Canada announced an investment of approximately $400 million to expand broadband Internet access in urban and rural areas of Hamilton. With zero cost to taxpayers, this will be the largest digital infrastructure investment in the City’s history. Over the next five years, Bell and a Bell-funded team of City of Hamilton staff will bring direct fibre network connections to more than 200,000 homes and business locations throughout the City with zero cost to taxpayers. The network will provide consumers with access to data speeds up to 1.5 gigabits per second, the fastest home Internet speeds in Canada. Moving across the city, completing areas such as Ancaster, here in Ward 15 Bell has now started to deploy fibre in Waterdown and Carlisle in partnership with Guci construction. Bell has also rolled out its Wireless Home Internet program in the area as well to rural residents.
Their infrastructure timeline for construction is 2020-2024 for projected completion. As with all infrastructure, as they complete their construction, Bell Canada will provide packages to customers for those who want to purchase.

- Select the aerial photo you would like to view. The grey lines are the Digital representation of the boundary limits as assembled by a company called Teranet, however these lines are approximate and can vary quite a bit depending on the mapping available at the time the base map was created back in 1995. In order to be absolutely sure the location of a boundary limit one must have a Ontario land Surveyor attend on site and define the boundary based on best available evidence.
- You should be able to hover over the boundary limits with your mouse and they will highlight accordingly.
